Fogg Public Library (HISTORICAL MASONRY)Owner: Town of Weymouth, MA
Location: Weymouth, MA
Engineer/Architect: McKinnell McKinnell & Taylor, Inc.
**This project was AWARDED PROJECT of the YEAR 2011 by ICRI-New England Chapter**
DESCRIPTION:
Built in 1897, the Fogg Public Library in Weymouth, MA is a 19th century landmark listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The first public library to be built in Weymouth, it was commissioned by John S. Fogg, a boot and shoe manufacturer and banker in South Weymouth, MA who initially funded its erection.
The library's exterior stone façade is constructed with Weymouth granite, and the architecture includes a mix of Dutch and classical elements. According to the town's website, the Fogg Library is a defining element of Weymouth's architectural heritage.
THE CHALLENGE:
Weather conditions over the last hundred years had taken their toll and eroded some of the exterior masonry and stonework.
THE CSI SOLUTION:
The CSI team completely repaired and repointed the exterior masonry at all elevations. The team also installed all new copper flashing and gutters and made final tie-ins to the roofing system.
Through close coordination with the project's general contractor and subcontractors, the team successfully completed this project on-time and on-budget.
