10 Post Office Square

CSI was awarded the contract to remediate underlying structural deficiencies at the exterior façade of a late 19th century office building at 10 Post Office Square in the heart of Boston's Financial District. A complete restoration to portions of the building facade was undertaken as an intrinsic part of the project.

The work began with the installation of an intricate engineered access system and canopy protection system at the front building facade, progressing to an involved survey of the existing limestone veneer and the cataloguing of the existing stones for removal and replacement at 2 columns and across the 13th floor water-table spandrel level.

Once the survey was completed, the limestone veneer was removed along with the brick masonry backup structure to expose the structural steel. Working closely with the structural engineer, deteriorated steel was identified and replaced or repaired as required. The steel was then coated with a protective coating. At this stage the backup masonry structure was reinstalled and the veneer replaced with new Indiana Limestone to match the original color and profile.

The work continued for approximately 8 months, all completed at night to ensure minimal impact on the buildings tenants and the busy surrounding neighborhood. CSI completed all work ahead of schedule and on budget with a product indistinguishable from the original quality construction of the building facade.
