Masonry Repair & Restoration

Key CSI Projects using Masonry Restoration

Massachusetts State House

Owner:       Commonwealth of Massachusetts

Location:   Boston, MA

Engineer/Architect:  SG&H

CSI was awarded the contract to restore the masonry joints and granite and marble stonework at the Ashburton Monument and Entrance of the Massachusetts State House.

The entrance way and monument had suffered many years of water and weather damage and required a complete chemical cleaning to remove excessive staining and efflorescence contamination. Great care was required to protect the existing stonework while the contaminants were cleaned away. Also, deteriorated mortar joints were cleaned out and replaced with specially formulated mortar to meet both historical and functional needs. New drains were installed in the stair gallery and the granite pavers were also cleaned and re-pointed.

CSI completed the work to the satisfaction of all with minimal impact on the critical operations of the State House.
