Listed on the National Register of Historic Places and the former home of president James Monroe, the Arts Club of Washington has showcased the visual, performing and literary arts for nearly a century. The historic mansion also hosts exhibits and performances for the public as well as a range of private events.

The structure, which dates to the mid 19th century, was experiencing advanced deterioration of the mortar joints on four of the original chimneys, one of which was significantly out of plumb. These chimneys required immediate repairs to ensure their structural integrity.
